Get a Closer Shave and Less Ingrown Hair with Clarisonic

clarisonic, clarisonic reviews, clarisonic mia I wasn’t blessed with beautiful skin. I’m not one of those people with flawless skin who you ask what they use and think they are going to wink and whisper some exotic potion like “truffle oil” and wink , but they say “soap and water”. I can’t just cleanse like that, I have skin where it needs to be exfoliated often or else it’s a mess. So when I saw the Clarisonic, I thought, this might be great for me. When I first used it, I thought it was going to really scrub. And when all I could feel is the vibration, I didn’t think I was going to see results. But I did! It’s very gentle, but really helps to keep skin clean and clear. I notice a huge difference in my skin if I slack off.

I recently read how men are using it to apply their shaving cream or gel, which is helping them getting a closer shave and avoid ingrown hair and shaving bumps because of how well and gentle it exfoliates. I had my husband try my Clarisonic to apply his regular shaving cream to half of his face to see if there was any difference versus the side that he just applied the cream with his hands. There was, he got a closer shave and his skin felt softer on that side. So use it in the morning before your shave and your skin will look clearer, brighter and less congested where you shave, and even where you don’t.

The Clarisonic isn’t cheap at around $200, but there’s a smaller version called the Mia shown above right. You can get it for about $149 (buy direct) from skinstore.com. If you use the code 15SPRING you’ll get an additional 15% off. Code expires 3/14/09.

Uni K Wax Center Review

Uni K Wax Centers are not only unique because they solely perform waxing services. All Centers use an herbal wax made in part of pine sap, beeswax and aloe vera. This differs from traditional wax because it does not contain any paraffins, coloring or chemical agents, neither does it harden on the skin. Their formula was developed by owner Noemi Grupenmager. (We have something in common, Noemi is Naomi in Spanish.) I am not fortunate enough to have any Centers by me, but my assistant Nicole has the only one on the West Coast, the San Diego location, about an hour and a half drive away.

Nicole didn’t just get an eyebrow wax, instead she got a Brazilian, underarms and full leg wax. So how the experience go for licensed esthetician Nicole? Read what she thinks of the cleanliness, pain, speed and immediate and long-term results in her Uni K Wax Center Review of the San Diego location.

Two Big Thumbs Down for Smooth Away Hair Removal

smooth away, smooth away hair removal, smooth away pads, smooth away reviews “What about those smooth away things, do they work?” That is one of the questions people ask when they find out that I write about hair removal. This company has surely done its marketing, having the public think it’s some new ingenious way to remove hair. When instead of cutting it with a razor, it’s just exfoliating it down. Even though they didn’t interest me at all, I picked some up at the drugstore so I could tell others what I really thought about these pads that are supposed to rub away hair.

After rubbing in circles on the upper part of my legs for a half hour, yes, the hair was gone. Well, at least for a day or so like with shaving. I admit that it didn’t bother my skin like becoming irritated or red. But who cares! I could have spent a couple minutes in the shower shaving, but wasted a half hour of my life exfoliating my hair away at skin level. With all that rubbing, I also wore out the replaceable disc. Good thing I hate this hair removal method because I would be shelling out a ton of money buying plenty of discs. And if I’m going to spend a half hour removing my hair, it better be pulled out from the root so I don’t have to see it for weeks.

The only way I could possibly see spending any money on Smooth Away (compare prices) is if you have a severe reaction to every other hair removal method and this is your last option. Or if you wanted to carry something with you in case you find some missed hair on your legs when you’re away from home. If you want it for something to use on a regular basis, I would say don’t waste your money.

Do You Offer Professional Hair Removal? Tell Us About It

So often people run into bad situations from getting hair removal services from people that don’t fully know what they’re doing, even if they are licensed. They then ask me if I know of any businesses in their area that don’t just offer professional hair removal, but are specialists. The emails ask me where they can find a great waxer, a reputable laser hair removal clinic, an experienced electrologist, a threading specialist or someone who offers real sugaring. I wish I had many thousands of reputable contacts all over the United States to refer them to.

Here’s the next best thing. Our new feature allows professional hair removal businesses to tell us a little bit more about themselves and share their expert advice. So if hair removal isn’t just on your menu, but your business really focuses on it, then we want to hear from you. Once published, it will look something like this post from Barbara’s Electrology Clinic.

Silk’n SensEpil Given Okay for Facial Hair Removal

silkn, silkn sensepil, facial hair removal, how to remove facial hair When Silk’n SensEpil (buy direct) was first released it wasn’t recommended for facial hair removal. But now, the company says that it can be used on the face from the cheekline downwards. I talked to someone from the company and they haven’t given the okay because of any change to the device. So why the go ahead now? According to the Silk’n website, “In a two-year multi-center clinical study Silk’n SensEpil has been proven safe and effective for the treatment of facial hair. Silk’n SensEpil can be used for treating facial hair from the cheek line downwards. Extra caution should be made to avoid the eyes”.

Another word of caution: Be aware that IPL (intense pulsed light) which is what Silk’n uses and laser hair removal may stimulate hidden facial hair growth in women.

What a Steal: Tweezerman Mini Slant Tweezers

tweezerman slant, tweezerman, slant tweezers, tweezers I love slanted tweezers because they make getting tiny and fine hairs so much easier to pull out. Tweezerman’s Slant Tweezers (read review) are ones that I would highly recommend. If the $20 price tag is a little too high for your liking, get a pair in the pint sized version. The Tweezerman Mini Slant Tweezers give you the same great plucking power but can be snatched up for 50% of the cost (compare prices) just because they’re a bit smaller. If you already own a full-sized slant tweezer, these are great for travel or to throw in your purse.

Nose and ear hair trimmer

Nose and ear hair trimmer

by Carl

You can pick up a nose and ear hair trimmer for $20 or so but can also spend more for perhaps a more durable and useful model.

The standard cheaper models tend to have a small cutting mechanism that vibrates back and forth that looks similar to a miniature version of a hair clipper. They tend to be battery operated and some care needs to be used when trimming inside the nose and the in the ear area as the cutting blades while typically not sharp enough to easily cut skin, their purpose of course is to cut hair so they aren’t dull! Sticking the trimmer too far inside your nose could accidentally nick the inside of your nostrils and cause a cut in a very sensitive part of your anatomy.

A typical nose and ear hair trimmer like this could last for several years depending on the quality and depending on how often you use it.

One downside I find with these cheaper nose and ear hair trimmers is that they tend to emit an annoying buzzing sound at a high pitch which you tend to really notice when trimming ear hairs.
